It is very hot and we are like 4 days into an 8 day heatwave and I just drove to do “an errand” and the heat made me lethargic and now I am laying on the couch when usually I would feel guilt about laying on the couch at this point in the day.
What do people do in places where it is hot and humid all the time?
My important errand: one time I read somewhere that if you cut a chicory root at midnight on the summer solstice, all locks will be opened. I’ve always wanted to do that but never done it. So I went to find some chicory.
It is kind of hard because chicory grows on roadsides, and it is also early in the year for it to be blooming, and also it only blooms for part of the day.
Good thing I am a plant expert!
I found some but they were in places I couldn’t pull over and then I finally found some in a place I could pull over. I’ll let you know what happens when all the locks open.
Today Ms. Megan Boyle Butler left after visiting for a while. We always have such a nice time. Here is what we did:
Looked at the Robin eggs on my front door and the baby deer in my backyard
Went on a walk at the track at dusk
Got 3 milkshakes
Ate fish, pizza, tacos, sandwiches, Tudors, snacks, Sheetz, juice, cake
Watched TV and YouTube videos and Braveheart
Went shopping at many Beckley stores and did the feminine ritual of saying “oh this is cute, do you think this is cute, I hate this, this reminds me of…”
Went swimming in the lake
Had plans be thwarted
Went to 3 different Walmarts (1 Walmart 2x)
Went on a walk/hike in the old growth forest
Hung out with Saja
Hung out with Diane
Walked around Fayetteville
Painted our nails
Looked at the 2 neighborhoods where I want to live
Sat on the back deck to hear the birds
Talked a lot about serious things and silly things and things in between
Oh here is my pet robin nest, which was originally on my front door but then I called the bird people who said I could move it and it is now next to my front door. I feel bad for the lady because she always flies off every time we arrive or leave and I want to tell her she doesn’t need to worry.
Today I also talked to Brad Listi for his podcast and I like talking to Brad Listi.
Today besides the solstice it is also West Virginia day, aka the day in 1863 when West Virginia busted out of Virginia and became its own state.
West Virginia, the most blursed state.
I have a writing tip for people: go swim in a lake with a good pal on your book publication day.
Scott is laughing at me currently because I told him that when I was a little girl, I had both a number 1 and number 2 favorite airplane.
Numero dos: Stealth bomber.
Numero uno: SR-71 Blackbird, which set the speed record in 1976 and still stands.
It is hours later from when I first started this post. We’re now watching Scott’s second cousin who is a contestant on the tv show Alone.
Here is a snake on a lake (with some geese)
Here is Jelly once she has found her soulmate, Megan Boyle. Jelly’s face makes me lol so much.
Edit: here is what the almost-full moon looks like on the solstice at midnight, as seen through a shitty iPhone SE camera.
THAT WAS SUCH FUN TIME!!!!!
Wow!!! I can't wait to read ***YOU ARE THE SNAKE***.
I heard from very reliable sources that reading ***YOU ARE THE SNAKE*** increases your sexiness by 666%. A bargain in this economy!!!!!
