The Lit Hub ran a cover reveal for You Are The Snake, which is coming out next June from Soft Skull.
It was designed by Farjana Yasmin with Nicole Caputo as art director and I love it so much. I was reluctant to have another pink book until I noticed that the background is not just pink, but pink, hairy skin.

My story, “The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911,” is now online at The Southwest Review. This is from their summer issue (only $6!) and is also part of the new work in the CLASH Books reissue of Witch Hunt & Black Cloud.

This story was one of the Top 3 Most Fun Stories to Write (the others are called “Hazel: A Diptych” and “Is it Jackal or is it Dragon,” which are both in You Are the Snake). I wanted to see if I could make a story out of my favorite 9/11 facts and this is how it turned out. It is a “story” because there are some lies in there. I read it in Baltimore in August at the Hidden Palace Reading Series and I liked feeling/hearing the reaction from the audience: laughter, disgust, feeling sad. That’s how I feel about 9/11 in general. It is tragic, brutal, sweet, funny, and campy all at once. (I feel like we’re far enough removed that you can admit that 9/11 is funny? In addition to being sad?) I had to cut some of it from the reading because otherwise it was too long. Too many great 9/11 facts for 1 reading!
Love the illustration by Mickey Miles.
