i was listening to the white light/white heat episode of The History of Rock in 500 Songs podcast* and it made me think about screen tests… which i think are like… “compelling” might be the right word here… Like watching somebody get bored and uncomfortable and space out. The small transitions of a person’s face. At some point, the void enters their face.
scott and i went to the warhol museum in 2014 and here is my screen test. i was in my 2022 lana del rey period… happy and a little chunky with no bangs.
i think i want to do something with screen tests for my You Are the Snake videos. Like, get different people to do them for me and then compile them. But only women. For some reason, screen tests by the fellas are way less interesting to me. I would like Nicolette Polek’s face on a screen test, Megan Boyle’s, Ana Carrete’s… trying to think of who else I would really love to see a screen test for. My friend Alana. If I see you IRL in the next few months, expect me to want to do a screen test on you.
Edie’s screen test
Bob Dylan
Jackie’s screen test
*i know i said podcasts are evil, but this one is not, this one is great, it is remarkably well-researched and interesting and is the kind of thing that can only exist as a podcast.
I love this— screen tests would be such a fun project. Warhol was such a nut, but when he got it right, it hit good.
i'm reading seize the day by saul bellow and part of the plot is about a bad screen test. i'm honestly not finding the book very....compelling...but was thinking about how interesting the concept of a screen test is and here are some just like a gift! edie's is magical, it's like you can almost see her thoughts moving across her face.
