i’m sitting in the kids’ room and there is a scary thunderstorm

it’s been so hot, unending hot, west virginia is not supposed to be this hot.

I saw this on Xiu Xiu’s Perfectly Imperfect and it is BLOWING MY MIND, specifically as a person who loves music from the ‘60s, specifically weird music from the ‘60s. You pick a decade and a country and they play you music from that place and time. The internet is supposed to be so great yet it sucks so bad, and this is the internet being great, which makes me happy because the internet has betrayed me but i still love her. (I have also discovered I like German disco.)

Kava tincture

This stuff is so much better than CBD, as a mild, non-habit-forming anxiety medicine. I don’t understand why it’s not more popular. Maybe because it tastes awful. Probably because there’s no money in the kava industry? idk. Scott has gotten into it, too, and whenever he takes it he says, “That stuff is a miracle drug.” I got Megan into it too. I want to spread the gospel of kava tincture.

Summersville Lake

Scott always made me think this lake was some boring man-made square in the earth but then both Kati and Saja made me think it might be the best place on earth, and it turns out they are right, I cannot get enough of swimming in the lake. I think it is curative to just about anything.

Also the lake has an interesting history. They built a dam in the ‘60s to control flooding and a side effect of the dam was this amazing lake. It is 300 feet deep in the summer. In the winter, they drain it 150 feet, except every ten years they drain it another 50 to maintain the dam. The drained lake is in my video.

To build the lake, they flooded the town of Gad (relocating the families that lived there first). Normally, a dam is named after the town closest to it, but they decided it was a bad idea to call it Gad Dam, so they named it after the next town over instead. Summersville Dam.

The Real World

Scott and I finished the London season of The Real World recently and it was so good. Nothing really happens in it, you just see seven lovely people coming to love each other. It’s also a perfect time capsule of the mid ‘90s. Jacinda’s clothing… I remember wearing or wanting so many things she wears. The show’s early focus was getting different people to learn from each other, and it is sad that it turned into making scenarios so people would get drunk and fight. why don’t they make reality tv like this anymore? TV where you just see people LIVIN LIVES, LAUGHING AND LOVING (and getting their tongues bitten)

The Sandwich Lifestyle

We’ve been eating sandwiches for dinner because it’s too hot to cook and let me tell you, I LOVE A GOOD SANDWICH. There are these wheat rolls at Walmart that make perfect sandwich bread and then you get to wonder: what kind of sandwich should i make tonight????

I bought this dress (in blue) thinking “I will wear this all summer long and it will feel like pajamas yet I will look nice in it” and I was correct.

Gambling on The Real Real

This has become A Problem and I am now self-banned from TRR for the foreseeable future. TRR doesn’t provide accurate sizing information and their shipping costs money and they also charge you if you want to do a return. This might seem like a deterrent, but for me, it makes shopping there EXCITING and HIGH STAKES. Every purchase feels like a bit of a gamble. and then when you get a SICK DEAL on a SWEET PIECE OF CLOTHING you are SO HAPPY

New Mattress

We got a new mattress. It is from Paramount. I did not know what mattress to buy and went into a dark rabbit hole of mattress information and then I found out about this company, which is local and has been owned by the same family for like 78 years or something. I am a sucker for words like “local” and “family business.” but hot damn this mattress is amazing.

also i wrote this post 1.5 weeks ago but didn’t post it until today for some reason. it is no longer stormy in the kids room. now it is pre-stormy and I am in rainelle.
